Organic farming:

Kitchen Gardening:
A garden in which plants (such as vegetables or herbs) for use in kitchen are cultivated.
Importance of Kitchen Gardening

•Gardening is the primary employment of Human.
•It is a healthy as well as profitable activity.
•Get fresh vegetables from your garden

Designing a kitchen Garden

2.Soil
3.Weather condition
4.Prevent the influx of pest and diseases
Selection of site
Locate your garden near the house
Vegetables require at least 6 hours sunshine
Don’t cultivate the plants under the trees

Soil
loam soil is best for garden
Its free draining but also moisture retentive.
Acid & Alkaline soil:
vegetables can be grow on soil with pH 5.5 to 7.5.
Drainage system:
To avoid soil become sump water should be drain in to the ditch
üAlternatively dig a soakaway this is deep hole usually at least 2m deep filled with clean rubble.
üWater runs out of the drainage trenches (60 cm deep) in to the hole then slowly soaks away in to the surrounding soil.
Fertilizer:
Chicken manure is the best fertilizer for gardener with high nitrogen and calcium.
Its important to age old for six month for use on edible crops.
Sowing
Soil crumbs should be small.
Soil should be neither too wet or not too dry
The ground should be warm at sowing time.
Harvesting and Storing
Maturity time for harvesting are different for different crops.
Storing
Keep the vegetables in cold and dark place.
There should be space in vegetables and air should be circulate between them.
Weather problems
Wind:
Make wind break to protect the plants.
Frost
Use cloches, fleece, straw and newspaper to protect the plant from frost.
