Introduction of propagation

Propagation: There are many ways of reproducing plants. The most common method is through the use.

Plants reproducing through the seeds are not identical. However not all the plants grow from the seeds are identical except wheat and barley.

Another method of propagation is called Asexual reproduction like hybrids.

Hybrids are the offspring of two different cultivars. A female plant of one cultivar and male plant of another cultivar are crossed to are crossed to produce offspring with the best characteristics.

Asexual reproduction is possible because each single of plant contains all characteristics of the entire plant and can grow any missing part.

Asexual method of propagation:

Division of roots

Stems or roots

Budding

Grafting

Runners

Bulblets

cuttings of leaves

One of the newest method to plant propagation is plant tissue culture.

Plant tissue culture:

This is an asexual method in which a growing shoot, tip or the bud of plant is separated and grown on a agar gel or other nutrient medium.

Through this method many thousands of new plants exactly like the parents can be reproduced through the propagation. This is a good way to rapidly increase the propagation of new superior plant.
